How do you reach your young people during the middle of lockdown?
This was a question I found myself asking at the beginning of this year when we were still struggling with lockdowns here in the Czech Republic. The youth group I lead hadn’t been able to meet in person for months and teens were fed up with online zoom meetings. Does this sound familiar to you? I am sure many of us have been through similar experiences recently.
Thankfully, I have the privilege of working with a brave and creative team who volunteer with the youth group; one of the solutions we prayed about was starting a podcast. Those who know me are aware that I am not a tech person at all. I have spent many days agonizing over emails and crying in the bathroom when I don’t know what the heck I am doing in this ever changing world of technology. Sometimes I ask God If I was born in the right time period. He always reminds me that I was, so I move forward into the unknown, learning new skills and asking for help when it is needed.
When this idea of starting a podcast came up in our team, I was pleasantly surprised by my own excitement. I knew that God had to be involved since I had no idea of how to start a podcast or what tech skills go into it.
We settled on the title Found In Prague and this is our mission:
“We are a group of international friends chatting about life’s ups and downs. Our hope is that through sharing our stories, ideas and lessons we’ve learned, young adults would be inspired to find purpose, find community, and find Christ.”
It has been quite a journey from discovering how to flow in conversation while recording, finding what content to create and spending many hours learning how to edit the podcasts. We are still in the beginning stages but today we have over five hundred downloads on our sixteen episodes. My prayer is that as we continue to be faithful in creating this podcast, God would use it to touch many young people’s lives in the Czech Republic and beyond.
I hope this story is encouraging to you and serves as a reminder that you can be resilient and creative with God through all things – even when it is an area that you are afraid of (like technology).
You can discover Found In Prague on any platform that hosts podcasts e.g. Apple podcast or Spotify.
Miranda Berg
My name is Miranda Berg. I am originally from Arizona where I grew up hiking and doing a lot of exploring. I think that this attributes to my curious and creative side that wants to reflect God’s heart through creativity as He has revealed so much of himself through his creation. Now living in Europe, I am intrigued by the variety in culture, history, and perspective. I hope that I can, in some small way, discover more of God and live out his heart in this magnificent part of the world.
